OSRS Achievement Diary
OSRS Achievement Diary Guide: Tasks, Rewards, Requirements & Best Diaries
If you are looking for a complete OSRS Achievement Diary guide, this page will explain how Achievement Diaries work, every region available, the four difficulty levels, the rewards you receive, experience lamps, diary equipment, requirements and which diaries I think are actually worth prioritizing first.
The Achievement Diary system is one of those parts of Old School RuneScape that is very very easy to ignore when you are starting an account.
You are doing quests, leveling skills, getting better equipment and trying to make money, so completing a random list of regional tasks might not seem particularly important.
But eventually you realize that some of the most useful permanent account upgrades in OSRS are hiding inside these diaries.
We’re talking about teleports, skilling bonuses, improved resource gathering, experience bonuses, shortcuts, daily utilities, combat conveniences, better access to important areas and unique diary equipment.
There are currently 12 regional Achievement Diaries in OSRS containing hundreds of individual tasks. Each region is divided into Easy, Medium, Hard and Elite difficulty levels.
So rather than treating the OSRS Achievement Diary system like something you eventually complete at the end of the game, I think it makes much more sense to use it as part of your normal account progression.
Complete the easy diaries while your account is still relatively new.
Start knocking out Medium and Hard diaries as your skills naturally increase.
Then use the Elite requirements as long-term account goals.
With that being said, let’s have a look at exactly how the OSRS Achievement Diary system works.
OSRS Achievement Diary Quick Guide
If you just want the very quick version, here is how Achievement Diaries in OSRS work:
- There are 12 regional Achievement Diaries.
- Each diary contains Easy, Medium, Hard and Elite tiers.
- Each tier contains a number of tasks that must be completed in that region.
- Tasks themselves can generally be completed in whatever order you want.
- You must claim the tiers progressively. In other words, you cannot claim the Hard reward until the Easy and Medium tiers have also been completed.
- Completing a tier gives you an Achievement Diary equipment item, permanent regional benefits and an experience lamp.
- Completing every diary through Elite allows you to purchase the Achievement diary cape.
That is essentially the entire system. The complicated part is simply meeting all of the skill, quest, combat and item requirements.
What Is An OSRS Achievement Diary?
An OSRS Achievement Diary is basically a collection of regional challenges designed to test how much progress you have made across different parts of your account.
Unlike a normal quest, a diary is not one continuous storyline.
Instead, you are given a list of separate tasks.
One task might ask you to use a particular Agility shortcut.
Another might require you to craft an item.
Another might require you to defeat a monster, cast a spell, complete a lap of an Agility course, pickpocket an NPC, enter a guild or use a particular piece of game content.
This is what makes the Achievement Diary system interesting.
It doesn’t really test one skill.
It tests your entire account.
You need combat stats, gathering skills, production skills, quests, transportation unlocks and knowledge of different areas throughout Gielinor.
The Easy and Medium tiers are generally fairly reasonable.
Hard starts requiring a much more developed account.
Elite diaries are where OSRS basically starts asking, “How serious are you about finishing this account?”
OSRS Achievement Diary Difficulty Tiers
Every normal OSRS Achievement Diary is separated into four levels of difficulty:
- Easy
- Medium
- Hard
- Elite
Easy Achievement Diaries
Easy diary tasks are designed for relatively early accounts.
You may need some low-level skills and a few quests, but most Easy diaries are something you should start looking at fairly early rather than waiting until your account is hundreds of hours old.
Medium Achievement Diaries
Medium diaries begin requiring more serious account progression.
You will start seeing requirements in the 40s, 50s and sometimes 60s, along with more quest requirements and less convenient tasks.
This is also where some diary rewards begin becoming genuinely useful for everyday gameplay.
Hard Achievement Diaries
Hard diaries are where I would say Achievement Diaries turn into major account goals.
You may need higher combat levels, significant quest progression, expensive skills and requirements that take quite a while to reach.
The rewards also become much more interesting.
Elite Achievement Diaries
Elite diaries are endgame account progression.
Several of the highest individual diary requirements reach into the 90s.
Some tasks also require major quests, difficult PvM encounters or other pieces of content that an early or mid-game account simply isn’t going to have access to.
The Elite tier is supposed to be difficult, but the permanent rewards are one of the reasons maxed and near-maxed accounts spend the time completing them.
OSRS Achievement Diary XP Lamps
Every completed Achievement Diary tier rewards some form of experience lamp.
These are extremely useful because you can direct the experience toward a skill you actually want to train, assuming that skill meets the lamp’s minimum level requirement.
| Diary Tier | XP Reward | Minimum Skill Level |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | 2,500 XP | Level 30 |
| Medium | 7,500 XP | Level 40 |
| Hard | 15,000 XP | Level 50 |
| Elite | 50,000 XP | Level 70 |
If you eventually complete all of the Achievement Diaries, those lamps add up to a very substantial amount of experience.
Personally, I would use diary lamps on skills that you either dislike training or that are particularly expensive or inconvenient for your account.
Important: Karamja is different. The Karamja Easy Diary gives 1,000 XP, Medium gives 5,000 XP to a skill of at least level 30, and Hard gives 10,000 XP to a skill of at least level 40. Its Elite reward follows the normal Elite diary lamp structure.
All OSRS Achievement Diaries
There are currently 12 Achievement Diary regions in Old School RuneScape.
Each one rewards its own line of equipment.
Completing Easy gives you the level 1 version, Medium upgrades it to level 2, Hard upgrades it to level 3 and Elite gives you the final level 4 version.
| Achievement Diary | Reward Item | Taskmaster | Highest Headline Skill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ardougne | Ardougne cloak | Two-pints | 94 Magic |
| Desert | Desert amulet | Jarr | 95 Fletching |
| Falador | Falador shield | Sir Rebral | 91 Farming |
| Fremennik | Fremennik sea boots | Thorodin | 83 Slayer |
| Kandarin | Kandarin headgear | The ‘Wedge’ | 90 Smithing |
| Karamja | Karamja gloves | Pirate Jackie the Fruit | 91 Runecraft |
| Kourend & Kebos | Rada’s blessing | Elise | 95 Slayer |
| Lumbridge & Draynor | Explorer’s ring | Hatius Cosaintus | 88 Smithing |
| Morytania | Morytania legs | Le-sabrè | 96 Fishing |
| Varrock | Varrock armour | Toby | 95 Cooking |
| Western Provinces | Western banner | Elder gnome child | 93 Slayer |
| Wilderness | Wilderness sword | Lesser Fanatic | 96 Magic |
Keep in mind that the highest skill shown above is only a quick reference point. Completing a full Elite diary normally involves many other skills, quests, items and activities as well.
Ardougne Achievement Diary
The Ardougne Achievement Diary covers Ardougne and nearby areas including Yanille and Port Khazard.
Your reward item is the Ardougne cloak, which upgrades from Ardougne cloak 1 through Ardougne cloak 4.
This is one of the diaries I would pay attention to relatively early because the reward line is useful for travel and Thieving.
Even the Easy reward gives you a very useful teleport to the Ardougne Monastery.
As you continue upgrading the diary, the cloak and regional benefits become progressively more useful.
If you regularly train Thieving, farm around Ardougne or use this part of the map frequently, the Ardougne Diary is definitely worth working through as your stats allow.
Desert Achievement Diary
The Desert Achievement Diary revolves around the large desert region and many of the activities located throughout it.
Its reward item is the Desert amulet.
The higher tiers become particularly useful if you spend significant time doing Desert content because the diary improves transportation and several regional activities.
The Desert Diary also includes requirements connected to content such as the Agility Pyramid, desert quests, skilling and combat.
Elite requires a very developed account, so I would treat the final Desert tier as a long-term goal rather than something you need to rush early.
Falador Achievement Diary
The Falador Achievement Diary covers Falador and many surrounding areas.
The reward item is the Falador shield.
This diary has some really nice utility for players who train Mining, Farming, Prayer or fight the Giant Mole.
The shield itself gains Prayer restoration utility as you progress through the diary, while additional unlocks affect different pieces of Falador content.
Falador is another diary where I think completing Easy and Medium reasonably early makes sense because the requirements are achievable and the rewards continue being useful later.
Fremennik Achievement Diary
The Fremennik Achievement Diary covers Rellekka, the Fremennik Province and several pieces of northern OSRS content.
The reward item is the Fremennik sea boots.
This diary becomes increasingly helpful for travel around the Fremennik region, Miscellania, Lunar content and several higher-level activities.
The interesting thing about the Fremennik Diary is that its highest headline skill requirement is lower than several other Elite diaries.
That obviously does not mean the entire Elite diary is easy, but it can make Fremennik Elite a reasonable target before some of the diaries requiring skills in the mid-90s.
Kandarin Achievement Diary
The Kandarin Achievement Diary covers a very large and heavily used part of the OSRS map.
Its reward item is the Kandarin headgear.
Kandarin diary rewards affect several different pieces of gameplay, including transportation and skilling around areas such as Seers’ Village and Catherby.
If you train Agility at the Seers’ Village Rooftop Course, you may already be familiar with how useful Achievement Diary bonuses can become because diary completion can directly improve training methods in the region.
This is a good example of why diaries should not be viewed only as collectibles. Their rewards can change the efficiency of content you are already doing.
Karamja Achievement Diary
The Karamja Achievement Diary covers Karamja, Brimhaven and other areas of the island.
The reward item is the Karamja gloves.
These gloves are useful for several different Karamja activities and become increasingly useful as you progress toward the Elite tier.
The Elite version also becomes particularly useful for players doing high-level Slayer because of its transportation utility around Duradel.
One thing to remember is that the Easy, Medium and Hard Karamja lamps do not use the same XP values as the equivalent tiers in the other diaries.
So if you are planning exactly how much free experience you will receive from diary completion, make sure you account for that difference.
Kourend & Kebos Achievement Diary
The Kourend & Kebos Achievement Diary covers Great Kourend and the Kebos Lowlands.
Its reward item is Rada’s blessing.
Rada’s blessing is particularly interesting because it occupies the ammunition slot, which makes it easy to carry during many skilling and general activities without sacrificing a normal armour slot.
The diary provides transportation and skilling benefits throughout Kourend and Kebos, areas that contain an enormous amount of content.
If you regularly do Slayer, Farming, Woodcutting, Fishing or PvM in this part of the map, working through the Kourend & Kebos Diary is very worthwhile.
Lumbridge & Draynor Achievement Diary
The Lumbridge & Draynor Achievement Diary is probably one of the first diaries I would recommend looking at on a developing account.
Its reward item is the Explorer’s ring.
The ring develops into a genuinely useful utility item with run energy restoration, transportation and eventually daily alchemy utility.
There are also several permanent account benefits attached to the higher tiers.
The funny thing about this diary is that the region sounds extremely beginner friendly because Lumbridge is where everybody starts.
The Elite tier absolutely is not beginner content.
It includes serious account progression and major quest requirements, so Easy and Medium may come very early while Elite could be one of your much later account goals.
Morytania Achievement Diary
The Morytania Achievement Diary covers Morytania and the large amount of skilling, Slayer and PvM content located there.
Its reward item is the Morytania legs.
This is a diary I would prioritize much more highly if you spend a lot of time doing Barrows, Slayer Tower content, Ectofuntus activities or other Morytania training.
The diary rewards are heavily tied into the region and can make repeated activities there noticeably better.
The Elite tier has one of the highest skill requirements among all Achievement Diaries, so expect this one to remain on your account checklist for quite a while.
Varrock Achievement Diary
The Varrock Achievement Diary is another one I think is useful on almost any account.
The reward item is Varrock armour.
Varrock armour is strongly associated with Mining benefits, but the full diary reward package extends beyond the armour itself.
The diary also interacts with useful everyday content including battlestaves and transportation around one of the most frequently visited parts of RuneScape.
Because most players spend an enormous amount of time around Varrock and the Grand Exchange, even fairly small improvements can add up over the life of an account.
I would definitely include Varrock Easy and Medium in an early-to-mid game Achievement Diary checklist.
Western Provinces Achievement Diary
The Western Provinces Achievement Diary covers a very wide collection of western OSRS content.
Its reward item is the Western banner.
The diary connects with areas and activities such as the gnome lands, chompy hunting, Pest Control and the elven regions.
For many players, the Hard Western Provinces Diary becomes an important milestone because Western Province progression is connected to useful equipment and account upgrades.
This diary has requirements spread across a lot of unrelated content, so it is a really good example of why preparing for diaries gradually is easier than suddenly deciding you want to finish all four tiers in one afternoon.
Wilderness Achievement Diary
The Wilderness Achievement Diary is exactly what it sounds like.
You will be completing tasks throughout the Wilderness.
Its reward item is the Wilderness sword.
The higher diary tiers improve transportation and different resource-based activities within the Wilderness.
Obviously, there is one major difference between this diary and most of the others.
Other players can attack you.
So when you are completing Wilderness Diary tasks, do not mindlessly bring your normal expensive gear just because the task seems simple.
Plan the task, bring the minimum amount of risk necessary, complete it and get out.
Which OSRS Achievement Diaries Should You Complete First?
There is no rule saying you need to finish the Achievement Diaries in a particular regional order.
You can work on whichever ones make sense for your account.
That being said, if I were starting an account and wanted a practical order, I would roughly think about them like this.
Good Early Achievement Diaries
- Lumbridge & Draynor
- Ardougne
- Varrock
- Falador
These regions have rewards that can affect normal everyday gameplay relatively early.
You are going to spend a lot of time in these areas anyway, so grabbing easy permanent benefits makes sense.
Good Mid-Game Achievement Diaries
- Kandarin
- Morytania
- Fremennik
- Kourend & Kebos
These become especially valuable once your account starts interacting heavily with Slayer, PvM, Farming, Agility and larger regional content.
Higher-Level Achievement Diary Goals
- Desert
- Karamja
- Western Provinces
- Wilderness
That does not mean you should ignore the Easy and Medium versions of these diaries.
It simply means I would not build an early account around rushing their final Elite requirements unless there is a specific reward you desperately want.
Best Way To Complete OSRS Achievement Diaries
I think one of the biggest mistakes people make with the OSRS Achievement Diary system is waiting until they suddenly decide they want one particular reward.
Then they open the requirements and discover that they are missing eight quests and ten different skill levels.
A much better approach is to treat Achievement Diaries as a permanent account checklist.
1. Complete Easy Diaries Early
Once your basic stats and quests start developing, look through every Easy diary.
You may discover that you already meet almost all of the requirements.
At that point, you might only need an hour or two to unlock several permanent rewards.
2. Use Medium Diaries As Account Goals
Medium diaries are excellent targets for developing an account because the requirements force you to train a balanced collection of skills.
Instead of getting 80 in one skill while leaving five others at level 10, diaries encourage you to build a more functional account.
3. Start Tracking Hard Requirements Before You Need Them
By the time Hard diaries become relevant, requirements can take significantly longer.
If you know you eventually need a particular skill level anyway, it makes sense to know what diary requirement is waiting for you.
4. Use Boosts Where They Are Allowed
Many diary skill requirements can be completed using temporary boosts.
That can save a substantial amount of training.
However, some specific diary tasks explicitly do not allow boosting.
So always check the individual task before assuming that a stew, potion or other temporary boost will work.
5. Combine Tasks By Location
Do not teleport across RuneScape for every individual task if you can avoid it.
Look through several tasks in the same region, gather all the required items and complete them together.
That sounds obvious, but some diaries contain tasks spread across enormous regions.
6. Complete Farming Tasks Early
If a diary requires you to grow something, do that part first.
There is nothing more annoying than finishing every other task and then realizing you need to wait hours for a tree to grow.
7. Do Not Forget To Claim Your Reward
Completing the tasks is only part of the process.
Once a tier is complete, visit that diary’s taskmaster and claim the reward.
That is when you receive your upgraded diary equipment, lamp and applicable benefits.
OSRS Achievement Diary Cape
The final long-term goal of the entire OSRS Achievement Diary system is the Achievement diary cape.
To obtain it, you must complete every Achievement Diary through the Elite tier.
Once that is done, the cape and hood can be purchased from Twiggy O’Korn in Draynor Village for 99,000 coins.
At that point, you have effectively proven that your account has progressed through an enormous percentage of Old School RuneScape’s skills, quests, combat and regional content.
The cape also interacts with the trim status of other completion capes, making full diary completion part of broader endgame completion goals.
If you want to verify individual tasks or the most current requirement for a particular tier, the Old School RuneScape Wiki Achievement Diary is also a useful reference.

Conclusion
The OSRS Achievement Diary system is basically a giant checklist showing how developed your Old School RuneScape account has become.
At first, you are doing simple tasks with low requirements.
Then suddenly you are completing Hard diaries that require dozens of quests and skills throughout the 60s and 70s.
Eventually, you reach the Elite tiers and OSRS starts asking for skills in the 80s and 90s, difficult combat achievements and some of the largest quest requirements in the game.
But the important thing is that you do not need to wait until then to benefit from Achievement Diaries.
Complete Easy tiers when you can.
Complete Medium tiers as your account naturally develops.
Start knocking out Hard diaries when the rewards become useful for whatever content you are doing.
Then slowly work toward Elite.
The experience lamps are nice, but the real value is in all of the permanent account upgrades you collect along the way.
And once every single Elite diary is finally finished, you can pick up the Achievement diary cape and officially never have to look at that giant list of requirements again.
